I am an avid runner, marathoner, and all-around health and fitness enthusiast, but that wasn’t always the case. I was not athletic growing up and only “dabbled” in exercise and healthy eating. For decades, exercise and diet were always a means to an end, the end being a goal weight, a jean size, a high school reunion, a beach vacation, etc. The problem was that once the “end” arrived, regular exercise and sound nutrition were not a priority. That changed in my early 30's. As a wife, and working mother of two young boys, I craved two things: more energy and some “me time". I found both with running.
I’ll spare you the details of how I got from barely jogging around the block to becoming a health and fitness coach, but here’s the point: a regular routine of physical activity gave me so much more than the energy and “me time" that I needed. As my confidence in running improved, I found interest in other physical activity, from strength training to kick boxing, biking to bootcamp. My body craved motion and, much to my surprise, craved more nutritious food to fuel that motion. My body was transforming. But it was more than my body.
Most importantly, both my physical and mental health transformed. I lowered my resting heart rate, raised my HDL (the good) and lowered my LDL (the bad), decreased my blood pressure, lowered my body fat percentage, practically eliminated illness (rarely get sick), reduced anxiety, regulated my moods (my family loves this one), improved sleep quality, increased mental sharpness, and the list goes on... I feel stronger, healthier, and younger and have more passion for life now than ever before. And they say to find work that you are passionate about, so…
…fast forward to today. I am so grateful and amazed at what physical activity and sound nutrition has done for my overall health and well-being that I feel called to “pay it forward”. I’m on a mission to help others realize how accessible health and fitness is at any age without complicated workouts, hours in the gym, crash diets, or fad supplements. It simply takes incorporating key fitness and nutrition habits into your lifestyle; yet, for the majority of the population, this process is anything but simple, for many reasons. This is where a certified Health and Fitness Coach, like me, can help!
